The rolling water-skip jump, formerly known as Water Skipping,[1] is an ability that can be used in multiple games in the Donkey Kong franchise. The move is a type of jump performed after rolling into water.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![edit]

In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Water Skipping can only be used by Kiddy Kong, allowing him to bounce on water, which is effective for reaching far or higher areas that the Kongs cannot reach themselves. This ability is required to reach a Bonus Level in Tidal Trouble and Riverside Race. Water Skip can be performed by performing a roll onto a body of water and pressing B Button (A Button in the Game Boy Advance version) right before Kiddy Kong touches the water's surface. Kiddy can bounce twice in a row, with the second bounce always being higher.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]

The move returns in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, where Donkey Kong and a partner can do so by Kong Rolling onto a body of water; the bounce height is more consistent in this game. In the Nintendo Switch port, Funky Kong can do this by himself, though he surfs using his surfboard instead.[2]

Donkey Kong Bananza[edit]

In Donkey Kong Bananza, rolling water-skip jumps can be performed by pressing A Button immediately after rolling onto the water's surface. A chain of this move can only be started if Donkey Kong started the roll while standing outside water. The existence of the move is only mentioned in an Adventure Hint and Emerald Perk description, both of which are part of the Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC.

The Skip Groove Emerald Perk causes more emerald ore to appear based on the number rolling water-skip jumps performed during the current Emerald Rush. The Perk is unselectable on layers without swimable water.
